Rotelli's Market - Mahoningtown (New Castle) PA

Text Coming Soon!

Anthony “Tony” Rotelli was born in Minturno, Italy, in 1905 and came to the United States when he was about eighteen. I believe he initially resided with his Uncle Frank Iovanella on South Cedar Street in Mahoningtown, and started working as a laborer with the Pennsylvania Railroad. In about 1930 he was married to local girl Carmela Sardona and together they had four daughters. Years later, possibly in the mid 1950’s, they purchased a small building on Montgomery Avenue (at intersection with South Liberty Street) and opened Rotelli’s Market (shown above). They operated this popular store for many years. Tony passed away in August 1973 at the age sixty-nine and was buried in St. Lucy’s Cemetery. I’m wondering if the store was closed at that time? I believe the old building is currently in use as a private residence. (Aug 2013) Full Size
