Text Coming Soon!

New Castle native Walter E. McClelland (1876-1940) (shown on right) operated a funeral home in Harlansburg from about 1895-1940. Walter, who also operated a local grocery store, was a highly esteemed funeral director. He married Edith Adella Stoner in 1899 and together they had four children. After Walter’s death his son Russell McClelland (1904-1964), who had previously worked with well-known undertaker Joseph S. Rice in New Castle, operated the business until he died suddenly while vacationing in Italy in July 1964. The funeral home was soon sold to Joseph W. Boyd (1916-1999), who operated it for about two decades. (c1925)

Russell McClelland, assisted by his beloved wife Gertrude (Gibson) McClelland, took over ownership of the funeral business about the time his father passed away in 1940. (Sept 1941)
